Why these tools work differently
Almost every online PDF service works the same way: you upload your document to a server, it is processed there, and a link comes back. That is unremarkable for a leaflet, and a strange thing to do with an employment contract, a bank statement or a medical report — which is precisely what people bring to PDF tools, because a PDF is what institutions ask for.
Pdfect never receives the file. The page loads a PDF library compiled to WebAssembly and does the work on your own processor: pages are rewritten, images re-encoded and text extracted entirely inside the browser tab. Your document is read from disk, changed in memory, and written straight back out as a download. Load a tool, turn off your connection, and it still works — which is the only version of a privacy promise that can actually be checked.
The same architecture removes the limits. There is no queue because there is no server to queue for, no daily cap because processing costs us nothing, no maximum file size beyond what your device can hold, and no watermark stamped across the result to sell you a subscription. Passwords you type into the protect and unlock tools stay in the tab too — they are used to derive a key locally and never transmitted.
