What is worth writing about

• A file does not work. PDFs vary enormously in how they are built, and the useful reports say which tool, which browser, and where the file came from — "a scan from a Canon office copier, Chrome on Windows" points at the problem far faster than "it fails". Bugs here are almost always specific to how one producer writes its files.
• A tool is missing. What gets built next is decided by how often something is asked for. Several of the tools on this site exist because somebody wrote in and made the case for them.
• A result is wrong. Text that will not extract, OCR that misses an obvious word, a compressed file that comes out unreadable, a form that will not flatten — these are real bugs and I want to hear about them.
• An error in the guides. If something in the written material is wrong or has gone out of date, corrections are genuinely welcome.

What to expect

I usually reply within a few days. This is a side project rather than a support desk, so I cannot promise same-day answers — but nothing goes unread.

Please do not attach the document you are having trouble with unless you are genuinely happy for me to have a copy of it. People bring contracts, payslips, medical letters and passport scans to these tools, and the whole point of Pdfect is that those files stay on your device. A description — how it was produced, roughly how many pages, whether it is a scan or a digital export, what the error said — is nearly always enough for me to reproduce the problem with a file of my own.
