Privacy policy

This policy explains what happens to your data when you use Pdfect. The short version: your documents are processed on your own device and never reach us, and the only information we collect at all is anonymous, aggregate traffic statistics.

Who is responsible

Your documents are never uploaded

Every Pdfect tool processes files locally in your browser, using JavaScript and WebAssembly running on your own device. Your PDFs are never uploaded, transmitted, stored or seen by us — at no point do they leave your computer or phone. That includes the passwords you type into the protect and unlock tools, the signatures you draw, and the text extracted by OCR.

This is not a promise you have to take on trust. Open any tool, disconnect from the internet, and it keeps working — because there is no server to send anything to. Nothing is written to disk on our side because there is no our side: the site is a set of static files, and all the work happens between the page and your own processor.

The practical consequence is that we cannot recover a file for you, cannot see what you processed, and cannot hand your documents to anyone else — including if we were asked to.

Analytics

We use a privacy-friendly, cookie-free analytics service to count page views and see which tools people use. It does not set cookies, does not use device fingerprinting, and does not follow you across other websites. What we see is aggregate: how many visits a page got, roughly which country they came from, which site linked here. None of it identifies you, and none of it is ever combined with the contents of the files you process — which, again, we never receive.

Advertising

Pdfect is free and is funded by advertising. Ads on this site are served byGoogle AdSense, a third-party advertising network.

Advertisers never have access to the files you process. Ads are ordinary page content: they run in their own frames and cannot read what a tool is doing, because the tool's data never leaves your browser's memory. Our cookie policy lists exactly what is stored on your device.

What we store on your device

One item of browser local storage, used to remember that you have dismissed the "this page is available in another language" suggestion. It stays on your device and is never sent anywhere. Pdfect also registers a service worker so the tools keep working offline; it caches the site's own code, never your documents.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete and port your personal data, and to object to its processing. In practice there is very little to exercise these rights against: we hold no account, no email list, no file history and no personal profile. If you have written to us by email, that correspondence is the only personal data we hold, and you can ask us to delete it at any time at yo@sergiodelarosa.es. You also have the right to complain to your national data protection authority.

Children

Pdfect is a general-audience utility and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a way that affects you, the date at the top of this page changes with it. Material changes will be summarised here rather than slipped in quietly.
